Tweed Cushion cover

The Tweed collection is fully handmade by our fair-trade certified partner in Ethiopia, who is working to preserve the rich textile tradition of the country and its expert workmanship.

The patterned design with coloured tassels makes them a fun and light element for a living room or bedroom. They pair well with the Mechot throw.

The cushion covers close with an invisible zipper and are fully lined, ensuring they last a long time. Colours from top to bottom are: yellow, black, copper, red and black with black tassels. Tassel colours vary (see detail images). The cushions are sold without pillow inserts.

The matching Mechot throws are currently available in white, black and yellow.

The artisans behind your product

Our partner

A fair-trade certified collective of 250 artisans in Addis Abeba is working around the various tasks of weaving products: from sourcing the locally-grown cotton, spinning it by hand, to weaving and adding the finishing stitches to it. The woman-led social enterprise pioneers an impactful movement to revive Ethiopian Heritage crafts.

Noble raw materials

The cotton is grown in Ethiopia and locally sourced, ensuring a low carbon footprint. With over 100 spinners working from home, the work allows mothers to generate a much-needed income.

Soft threads

Depending on the woman who spun the thread, it will be a little thinner or thicker and give your product that softness and human touch, which has long disappeared in our marketplaces, even from premium or luxury brands.

Warp & Weft

All the looms are operated fully manually (also involving the feet!). While typical ethiopian weavers would work on 2-harness looms creating flat weaves, some of our partners' weavers work with 4 or 8 harness looms, meaning they craft with 8 feet peddles! There are so many innovative weaving techniques and patterns - the artisans are involved in developing and creating new collections.
