Moonlight lamp small

Moonlight lamp small

The Moonlight lamp is handcrafted in rural Tanzania by women artisans in collaboration with the French designer Emmanuel Babled. The lamp is made from papyrus grass coiled with star grass, recycled thread and wood. 

Place it on a bedside table or a side-board and tilt the front to create different light atmospheres, indirect for ambiance or more direct for reading.

The artisans behind your product

Our partner

Founded in 2007, this social enterprise operates from Tanzania in the tri-border region with Rwanda and Burundi, working with artisans in this remote area and with refugees. Creating safe environments, personal growth and income opportunities is the purpose of this impressive woman-led initiative.

Working with the locally available fibers, stargrass or the bark of banana trees, these 100% natural and sustainable products were made with the time-intensive technique of coiling, which can be seen on this image.

Design as a force for good

Co-created with the French designer Emmanuel Babled, the lamps are part of a collection that he designed for East African lodges so that these would provide an income for the local artisans. This colourful collection lives up to the safari vibe combining refinement and nature.

When you empower a woman, the impact on the family is huge. Children will be able to go to school, or to attend school for more years, also the girls.
