Bolga Fringe Basket

With its undulating woven body and dramatically untamed fibres, the Bolga Fringe Basket celebrates the expressive artistry of traditional Ghanaian basketry. A striking interplay of structure and movement, it is as much a sculptural object as it is a functional piece for the home.

Handwoven by Gurunsi artisans in Northern Ghana, each basket is crafted from elephant grass, carefully harvested to allow the plant to regenerate. The fibres are split, twisted by hand and kept supple during weaving, allowing the artisan to shape the basket’s distinctive flowing curves. At the rim, the grass is deliberately left long and uncut, creating an organic fringe that gives every piece its own character.

A basket of this scale requires exceptional skill and several weeks of meticulous work. Each piece is therefore made to order, reflecting the time, expertise and care invested in its creation.

Place it in an entrance hall, beside a reading chair or in an otherwise understated corner, where its sculptural silhouette can take centre stage. As daylight shifts, the loose fibres cast delicate, ever-changing shadows, bringing depth, warmth and a sense of movement to the interior.
