Two crafts, one necklace. Near Accra, artisans melt down glass bottles and re-form the glass into beads, each softly faceted and full of light. In Kumasi, the former Ashanti capital, brass-smiths cast pendants by the lost-wax method: every element is modelled in wax, covered in clay and fired, then filled with molten recycled brass. The clay mould is broken to release the piece, so each brass pendant is one-of-a-kind, made by a talented Ashanti craftsman.
Some necklaces also include vintage glass beads found in Accra's markets. The result is heritage craft in a contemporary form: bold colour, warm brass and a story in every bead.
